Split System Air Conditioning Installation
Supply and install of wall-mounted split systems, sized to the room rather than to whatever was on special.
A split system is the right answer for most single rooms — a bedroom, a living area, a converted garage, an office. One indoor head, one outdoor condenser, and a pipe run between them. The install is straightforward when the two units end up close together and gets more involved the further apart they are.
The part that decides whether you are happy with it in three years is sizing. An undersized unit runs flat out and never gets there. An oversized one short-cycles, never dehumidifies properly, and costs more to run than the correct unit would have. I size off the room — floor area, ceiling height, glazing, orientation and insulation — not off a rule of thumb.
Every install is done under my ARCTick refrigerant handling licence, pressure tested and evacuated properly before the gas goes in, and left with the paperwork and warranty documentation you will need if you ever have to make a claim.

Common questions
How much does it cost to install a split system?
A straightforward back-to-back install where the indoor and outdoor units sit either side of the same wall is the cheapest scenario. Cost goes up with pipe run length, height, difficult access, and whether new electrical work is needed. I price the job after seeing it or after you send photos — quoting a split system blind usually means the number changes on the day, and that helps nobody.
Can you reuse the existing pipework on a changeover?
It depends entirely on what gas the old system ran. R410A pipework can generally be reused for an R32 system. R22 pipework cannot — the old mineral oil residue is not compatible and it will damage the new compressor. If your old unit is R22, budget for new pipe.
Do I need an electrician as well?
If there is already a suitable isolator and circuit at the outdoor unit, usually not. If the unit needs a new dedicated circuit run from the switchboard, that is licensed electrical work and I will coordinate it rather than pretend otherwise.
How long does an installation take?
A clean back-to-back install is typically half a day. Longer pipe runs, upstairs installs, or anything involving roof space access can run to a full day.
